What does family mediation cost?
Charges vary, so ask each service before you start. Our guide to divorce in Scotland explains how mediation fits into the process.
Which court deals with a divorce in the Highlands and Islands?
Most divorces in Scotland go through the local sheriff court, and one of you must have lived in that court's area for at least 40 days. The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service lists every sheriff court and its contact details.
How to choose a family mediator
- Ask what the service charges, and whether it offers reduced fees.
- Ask whether you can have sessions online or separately if you would rather not be in the same room.
- Mediation is voluntary and confidential, and you can stop at any time.
