The money workbook
Everything a solicitor or mediator will ask about your finances, gathered in one place and in the order they'll ask for it.
Walk into your first appointment ready
Most people turn up to their first meeting with a solicitor or mediator holding a carrier bag of paperwork, or nothing at all. Either way, the first hours they pay for go on working out what there is.
This workbook does that part with you, at your own kitchen table and at your own pace. It follows the order of Form E, the financial statement used when a court decides on money. So whether you mediate, agree things between you or end up in court, nothing you write in it is wasted.

Questions people ask
Is this legal advice?
No. It's a way to get organised, so that when you do speak to a professional your time with them goes on advice rather than paperwork. It doesn't tell you what you're entitled to, because that depends on your situation.
I live in Scotland or Northern Ireland. Is it any use to me?
The law on dividing money is different in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and Form E is used in England and Wales. Gathering your documents and knowing what you own, owe and spend will still help, but some pages won't match the forms you'll be given.
Can I fill it in on my phone?
You can read it on a phone, but it's much easier to fill in on a computer or tablet, or printed out. On a Mac, Preview lets you type straight onto the pages. On other computers, the free Adobe Acrobat Reader does the same.
Will anyone know I've bought it?
Your payment shows under a short, neutral name that doesn't mention divorce, and the email with your download link comes from "DL Members" with a subject line that doesn't mention divorce either.
What if something's wrong with my download?
Email [email protected] and we'll put it right. If the file is faulty or isn't as described, you're entitled to a replacement or a refund.
Can I share it with my partner?
It's licensed for your own use, so please don't pass the file on. If you're working through things together, you're both welcome to buy a copy, and you'll each need your own figures anyway.
